Gym Class Hero – Style for the Gym

Updated: Oct 9, 2018

When your gym clothes go stale, try these fresh style tips.

“If you playin’, you best get up out of here!” A man once yelled as he entered a public gym. Either he was not excited about the line for protein shakes or he was serious about his upcoming workout. I like to think the latter. That’s the kind of respect workouts demand. The same respect should go into what someone decides to wear to the gym as well.

As our general knowledge of fitness has improved, our understanding of how clothing impacts us during workouts has too. Consider the difference between trying to sprint in basketball shorts versus running shorts during a workout.

"If you’re a tall & slim guy, what items can improve your workouts and also make you look like you’re the newest model for a fitness ad?"

If you’re a tall & slim guy, what items can improve your workouts and also make you look like you’re the newest model for a fitness ad? From top to bottom, here’s how you Gym Class Hero the **** out of your fitness sesh:

  • Navy Blue A-shirt or T-shirt (Consider moisture-wicking)

  • Navy Blue Shorts

  • Navy Blue Tights

  • Athletic Shoes

In my professional opinion, the first item to check off this list is your shoes. Not only do they provide comfort/stability, but the right shoes can help with performance.

Start with what type of exercises you’d like to train in. Consider if it’s for weight-gain/loss, cross-fit, speed improvements, etc. Once that’s determined, find a design you like and test it out. Finding the right shoe is where it all begins.

“For tall & slim cats, getting the correct size is extremely important. Avoid anything too tight or too baggy.”

The next item on the list is the shirt. For tall & slim cats, getting the correct size is extremely important. Avoid anything too tight or too baggy. Like the shoes, pick out a shirt that fits well with the activity you’ll be doing. You’ll find many options. Most training tops will include a type of moisture-wicking technology. Not only does it help battle sweat, these tops allow for more range of motion. Some shirts come with pockets. Some come with reflective attributes. Sky’s the limit!

Navy-blue tights are another beneficial addition to this look. The compression feature from the tights help with blood circulation, support and they also help keep your legs warm. If you're a tall & slim gent, you may consider going up a size from your usual. For example, if you normally wear a medium in shorts, consider a large here.

If it's hot out or the tights don't work out, find a pair of shorts with compression tight's lined inside of them. They'll provide the same benefits.

Last but not least is the navy-blue shorts. This may shock you a bit but go for a pair that fall above the knee. They'll provide more range of motion. And just like the t-shirt, there's a plethora of types to choose from. You'll find some with zipper pockets, light-weight reflective material, netting and more. All depends on your goals.

One final piece to keep in mind is, accessories. Accessories can be extremely beneficial to your workouts. From Apple watches, to arm sleeves, to arm bands, to shoelace lights, you name it. If you've never considered looking into workout tech, I'd suggest giving it a go!

Investing in your workout wardrobe, can improve your workouts. Take the time to find a shoe that really protects your feet and helps improve your performance. Test brands out and figure out which one truly impacts your performance. Okay, you’ve got the idea. 🏃‍♂️with it!
